How did the lady get into the house without a key or a code?

I can’t stand Ron DeSantis, but I do agree these laws need to change. Legally stealing peoples homes it’s just flat out wrong. Squatters suck!

My son is struggling to get his business off the ground. He has done this type of work since he was 16yrs old. He is a dad now and is 34 and he is struggling.

What happened with him Even if he leaves, he will just go do it again. It would be good to give the full story.

There's a few things I don't get. When he initially showed up and refused to leave, why weren't the cops called immediately? Same goes for when he assaulted her friend.

For me looking at this fraud from another country with totally different laws look like very filthy like stealing she is a thief and most probably will geht away with it, this is very sad. I do not recognize USA anymore and sure I am not investing one single cent for tourism in USA !!!!

All these new squatter laws that are in affect in a cpl states needs to also have jail time, they get let off easily already with 3 days eviction notice and, yea if they try to go to court with a fake lease, its a felony, but that doesnt mean jail time really, it needs a manadory 30 days minimum, if damages the time needs to go up, esp since the homeowners are still the ones having to foot the bill on the mess/destruction, most already know these people have no money or not enough to pay the amounts of what was destroyed, every $ needs to be taken into account for time to be served in jail and no letting them out early with good behavior, because i guarantee they will move to another state that has more squatter rights and do the same their. Thankfully ga has the 3 day eviction and if court is presented with a fake lease, its a felony, but to me thats still not good enough, they get a slap on the wrist

Well done, Flash. You did what you needed to do, and the deputies did their job correctly. You went there in person with proof that you were the legal resident - a signed, notarized lease. Thankfully the squatters cooperated and no one was hurt. They did not destroy the property, which they might have during a long court fight. The Officers cannot enter a residence without a)a search warrant, or b)permission from a proven legal resident, or c)just cause cause like someone screaming for help, a fire, etc. Anyone can call on the phone and say that the house is illegally occupied. The written permission for sherriff is an excellent idea - the real estate agents need to call them each time before entering.

You are so lucky at least she was civil. A landlord got arrested up here for trying to get squatters out of her house. They would stay for years up here.

I wonder if the homeowners could sue Airbnb, and based on the contract that they have with Airbnb be able to collect some of the expenses they had to pay out as a result of this case. I think the problem here isn’t so much the issue with who’s responsible the issue is in California. I don’t know exactly how many weeks it is but it’s either like two or three weeks establishes tenancy. So in order for people who are renting Airbnb’s in California to avoid this problem happening they have to make sure that they get that person out as soon as they overstay their welcome. If there’s supposed to be out on the first and they aren’t rebooking the owners need to call the police, or go to a lawyer and file a motion to get them out before they establish legal tenancy. In the interim between when they were supposed to be out by Airbnb, and when they establish tenancy at the homeowners residence they have no legal right or protection to be in that property. And especially in the cases of these really fancy property rentals, I would say that legally by any means possible, including filing a restraining order if the circumstances warrant, it should be done to get the person out before they have tenancy. It’s going to much harder to remove them after that 2 or 3 weeks. You can’t leave any leeway, or make any exceptions, because three weeks barely gives you enough legal time to get them out before they would establish tenancy.

Awesome story! I've heard of roommates pulling this stunt and getting a free ride while going through the legal process. She was cussing the homeowner while eating food from the fridge. 😮

How did he not get charged for assault for attacking the young woman with the bruises? This guy essentially did a slow motion push-in on an elderly woman. Clearly he’s abusive to women. Usually the criminal will push-in to a home with an elderly person and then use it for a few weeks, dealing drugs. This guy is a menace who belongs in prison.

People in liberal states don’t want to lose their property to squatters anymore than people in red states do. But because each homeowner fights this one at a time, there hasn’t been a demand for change until Flash became an advocate for change. Great work. I hope all of our states do something about this. Everybody hates scammers and people who steal.

Simple have a team of friends squat when they leave to do what ever there doing. Even have them same papers the other squatters have. Who's kicking who out now lol.

The cost limit should be the same as Small Claims Court. In California it is $5000. The other alternative would be a Handyman contractors license with CSLB for a $5000 limit.

Gov DeSantis just signed a anti- squatters rights bill in Florida. It tells the sherriff to go in now and evict

In addition to being incredibly time consuming and very costly to remove squatters from your legally owned property, squatters also destroy people's properties, they vandalize the properties they take over and they're not held responsible. It is a horrible nightmare for the home owners, and very traumatizing. Unbelievable that laws do not protect the home owners.
